Clash of titans as TAFIC welcome Galaxy

31 Jan 2025

Following last weekend’s unexpected loss to Matebele, FNB Premiership log leaders TAFIC are aiming to return to winning ways against defending champions Jwaneng Galaxy at Francistown Council Stadium tomorrow at 4pm.

With 33 points from 16 matches, the Machimenyenga Boys are narrowly leading the log on goal difference from second placed Township Rollers which has the same number of points 33 points.

Defeat to third placed Galaxy could therefore have grim consequences on their log position.

TAFIC head coach, Elias Chinyemba who has just returned from a suspension of two consecutive games for dissent, is optimistic about victory.

“We are fully aware of the team we will be facing and we will capitalise on every mistake they make and use everything at our disposal to defend our lead in the log standing,” said Chinyemba.

With Galaxy having remained unbeaten in their opening 16 matches of the season, their assistant coach Seemo ‘Sixteen’ Mpatane, reckons suffering a defeat against TAFIC would be a major upset for them.

“We have been waiting for this moment and we will make history this weekend,” said Mpatane.

However, TAFIC have the advantage of playing on home turf backed by their supporters who will likely pack the stadium.

In other Saturday matches, Morupule Wanderers will be aiming to maintain their winning streak when they host bottom of the log Union Flamengo Santos at Palapye Stadium at 4pm.

Wanderers have won the all their last five matches, including a 1-0 victory over Santos in their first round encounter earlier this month.

Santos on the other hand are battling with only seven points from 16 matches at the bottom of the log, but would be motivated by their 2-0 victory over Orapa United last weekend.

Still on Saturday, Orapa United will welcome Security Systems to Itekeng Stadium at 4pm in Orapa. The Ostriches were held to a goalless draw by Nico United on Wednesday and are now without a win in their last five league matches.
