Comprehensive plan for MOSEMA development crucial

The recent kgotla meetings held in Sehunuo and Motshegaletau provided a vital platform for addressing pressing challenges faced by constituents in the region.
Member of Parliament for Serowe South, Mr Leepetswe Lesedi emphasised the importance of these discussions in identifying and prioritising local issues while formulating practical action plans to address them.
MP Lesedi acknowledged the poverty-stricken conditions prevalent in his constituency, highlighting the urgent need for a comprehensive action plan to combat these challenges.
“The MOSEMA area, which includes the villages of Motshegaletau, Sehunuo, and Mabuo, is lagging behind in development. It is imperative that we bring these villages up to par with others of similar status,” he stated.
One of the critical concerns raised by MP Lesedi was the low intake of the Ipelegeng programme in the MOSEMA area, which he attributed to the dire conditions faced by residents.
He also pointed that ablution facilities at Sehunuo Primary School were inadequate to accommodate the high enrollment, urging relevant authorities to take immediate action to rectify the situation.
In line with the new administration under President Advocate Duma Boko, MP Lesedi stressed that ministers should accomplish set targets within their five-year terms.
He urged fellow MPs and public servants to expedite services to meet the expectations of Batswana.
Particular attention was drawn to the dire state of the sewage system at Motshegaletau Primary School, which is reportedly a health hazardous, with livestock roaming freely in the area.
“This situation is not only a health hazard but also an eyesore that requires urgent intervention to safeguard the lives of our children,” he said.
In related developments, Dr Nkosiyabo Moyo, Acting Director of the National Disaster Management Office, reported that a delegation led by Minister for State President, Mr Moeti Mohwasa, recently visited the MOSEMA area to assess the risks posed by ground fissures.
Geoscientists from the Botswana Geoscience Institute (BGI) are currently conducting research, after which a comprehensive assessment report will be compiled to inform necessary actions.
Serowe District Commissioner Ms Angelinah Leano-Bakoko announced that she would submit the assessment report to the minister by February 14.
This report, she said would guide structural engineers from the Department of Building and Engineering Services (DBES) in addressing the needs of affected households in the MOSEMA area.
She emphasised that the government must await the report before making any decisions regarding remediation efforts. ENDS
