Woman dies from suspected poisoning

A 34-year-old woman of Khudumelapye has died from suspected poisoning.

Letlhakeng Police Station commander, Superintendent Amos Kekgathetse said on Monday that the incident occurred on January 25. He said the deceased might have used a contaminated container to drink water with her medication, or handled poison prior to taking her medication.

Superintendent Kekgathetse said the woman was rushed to a clinic after she complained about not feeling well. Investigations to establish the cause of death were ongoing, Superintendent Kekgathetse said.

In a different matter, he said they registered a case of murder and suicide on January 23 which happened at Maanelwa cattle post, involving a 40 year-old man and a 48 year-old woman belived to have been lovers.

Superintendent Kekgathetse said it was suspected that the man used a wire to strangle the woman and then used the same wire to hang himself. The suspect, he said was reported for making threats to kill on January 22 and the incident happened while the police were on his trail.

Superintendent Kekgathetse said they were awaiting results of the post-mortem examination and that the woman was buried on January 24. He urged partners to seek assistance from village leaders, law enforcement officers and social workers when they have a misunderstanding, and not resort to killing. ENDS
