Minister of Youth and Gender Affairs, Ms Lesego Chombo, Assistant Minister for State President, Ms Maipelo Mophuting and Assistant Minister of Higher Education, Mr Justin Hunyepa were among mourners who attended the funeral of three people who perished in a house fire in Makaleng on January 8.
The three, Opatile Nthoka (31), her son, Tlotlo Nthoka (4) and a cousin, Kaone Nthoka, died in a house fire allegedly set by Opatile's boyfriend. The boyfriend later committed suicide.
Speaking at the funeral, Ms Chombo condemned the brutal killings, expressing particular outrage at the targeting of defenseless women and children.
Ms Chombo said Botswana had become an unsafe place for a woman to live. She urged divine intervention, calling on citizens to prioritise prayer.
She also implored the nation to put God at the forefront, emphasising that fearing the Lord, the foundation of wisdom and love, was essential to building a peaceful Botswana.
Mr Hunyepa said cases of gender based violence should be addressed collectively. ENDS
