Matjimenyenga takes on Moyagoleele

14 Jan 2025

An exciting encounter is expected when surprise FNB Premiership log leaders TAFIC take on Gaborone United (GU) at Obed Itani Chilume Stadium in Francistown tomorrow afternoon.

The original fixture was postponed on December 21 after a heavy downpour minutes before kickoff left the Francistown City Council Stadium pitch unplayable.

TAFIC go into the match with good momentum having held league champions Jwaneng Galaxy to a goalless draw away on Saturday.

The Matjimenyenga Boys have won three and drawn two of their last five matches, including an emphatic 6-0 drubbing of Union Flamengo Santos, which was their biggest league victory since they beat Orapa United by the same scoreline in the 2013/14 season.

TAFIC will once again pin their hopes on their on form attackers Jeagogo Lwamba, who is the current leading goalscorer with eight goals, and Modise Modipe to propel them to victory against The Reds.

GU have stuttered in their last two matches losing 4-2 to Morupule Wanderers and wasting a numerous chances in a goalless draw against BDF XI last weekend.

Mood in the Moyagoleele camp is not excatly a bouyant one at the moment after head coach Pontsho Moloi's resignation on Saturday evening, which was followed by the departure of assistant coach Stephen Maposa on Sunday.

Goalkeeper coach Khalid Niyonzima has been tasked with leading the Reds as interim head coach alongside second assistant coach Gaopatwe Seosenyeng.

Currently in fourth position with 25 points from 13 matches, GU will be aiming for victory in order to move into second position and close the gap between them and TAFIC to just a single point. TAFIC has 29 points from 13 matches.

Thatayaone Kgamanyane, with seven goals so far this season, remains the best bet for Moyagoleeele to break the Matjimenyenga defence. Thabo Maponda, Sheikh Sesay, Mpho Kgaswane and Molaodi Tlhalefang are the other Reds attackers who can hurt the hosts.

The match will kick off at 4pm. ENDS
