Road a solution to Khwee challenges

Construction of access road in Khwee is a solution to challenges faced by residents of Khwee village, MP for Boteti East Mr Keoagile Atamelang informed the residents on Tuesday during a kgotla meeting.

He said challenges, ranging from delayed access to government services and other developments would be an issue of the past once the road was constructed. He promised to fight tooth and nail to ensure to included the project in the budget for next financial year.

Government he said commit to upheld people’s rights. “Access to water is a right, and in this day and era people should not be begging for basic needs like water,” he said, adding that government aimed to implement accelerated infrastructure development to drive economic growth, enhance quality of life and contribute to poverty reduction.

Further, he expressed concern that Boteti district was leading in Gender Based Violence (GBV) hence implored stakeholders like liquor shop owners, pastors and chiefs among others to participate actively in addressing GBV.

Mr Atamelang who is also the Assistant Minister of Transport and Infrastructure said government promised more effort to support and empower stakeholders address GBV issues, which he said affected the economy negatively. He urged residents to unite against all forms of GBV.

Village Development Committee chairperson Mr Gasebatho Gasebatho complained of shortage of standpipes in the village and lack of water tokens. He said the whole village had one standpipe. He also called for extra police officers and pleaded for a police post and a vehicle.

Mr Gasebatho requested upgrading of the health post to a clinic with maternity wing. He also decried high rate of malnutrition in Khwee, indicating they were once promised direct feeding ration to children, but such had not effected to date. ENDS
