Kgosi Gaerupe death loss to family and nation

Multitudes of mourners gathered at Salajwe on January 4 to pay their last respects to the late Kgosi Moala Gaerupe, who passed away on December 23 at the age of 69 . Among the mourners were Minister of Justice and Correctional Services, Mr Nelson Ramaotwana ,Kgosi Mothibe Linchwe of Customary Court of Appeal , Kgosi Kgari Sechele III of Bakwena and various local leaders. Speakers took turns at the podium,stating that the loss of Kgosi Gaerupe left an immense void, to the community and the nation. Many hailed him as a legend, a man who impacted the lives of every individual while executing his duties with professionalism. Kgosi Mothibe delivered heartfelt condolences, in his capacity as leader of Customary Court of Appeal, to the grieving family and the Salajwe community. He appealed to them to honour Kgosi Gaerupe’s legacy by fostering peace and harmony among themselves. He spoke of Kgosi Gaerupe’s unwavering commitment to the Department of Tribal Administration, highlighting his dedication and hard work. He stated that he presided over numerous cases across various villages. Kgosi Mothibe also conveyed a message from the Minister of Local Government and traditional Affairs, Mr Ketlhalefile Motshwegwa, who recognised Kgosi Gaerupe as an exceptional leader devoted to serving his community with integrity and diligence. The message emphasised that Kgosi Gaerupe's passing was a loss not just for his family, but for the entire nation. In his message, the minister wished the grieving family strength during this challenging time. Kgosi Kgari III said he learnt a lot from Kgosi Gaerupe at the Department of Tribal Administration. He said Kgosi Gaerupe’s work ethic was outstanding and that he was hoping to find someone of his caliber to continue serving the people of Botswana. Kgosi Itsoseng Gaoonwe of Letlhakeng, who referred to Kgosi Gaerupe as his uncle, shared how he had shaped his life and introduced him to church. He said the deceased was not only a good leader but also a guardian to his counterparts. Another speaker, Mr Lenna Ooke praised Kgosi Gaerupe as a devoted family man, crediting him for maintaining a loving and harmonious relationship with his wife since their marriage in 1979. A Friend, Mr Thuso Lesupi fondly recalled the joyful moments they shared during their childhood days, saying he had a sense of humor. Another friend, Gaorutwe Mohulapodi, spoke of Kgosi Gaerupe's kindness and unwavering support for the community. Kgosi Gaerupe started at the Department of Tribal Administration in 1984, steadily climbing the ranks until he reached the position of senior chief, a role he held until his passing. Kgosi Gaerupe who was a devoted member of ST Engenase (ZCC) is survived by wife, five children, and thirteen grandchildren. Ends
