Man drowns in a pond

A 23-year-old Zimbabwean man was found dead January 1 around 2 pm in a water pond in Kgonono lands near Mabalane in Kgatleng District.
According to Senior Superintendent Diane Lentigetse, also the acting Commanding Officer for No. 11 District, (Kgatleng District), the deceased's girlfriend told the police that the he went to the pond within the farm, located in a blind spot from the homestead where the girlfriend was resting under a shade.
Snr Supt Lentigetse said the deceased was found naked floating on the pond whilst his clothes lay on the bank of the pond.
The Special Support Group, and Botswana Police scuba divers assisted to retrieve the lifeless body from the pond.
Ms Lentigetse said the deceased did not have any swimming skills according to his girlfriend, and it was unclear whether he was trying to swim or had other plans.
By the time of the incident the owner of the farm where the deceased was a worker, was on vacation, said Lentigetse.
Snr Supt Lentigetse said the corpse was taken to the mortuary. She further said police investigations were ongoing and names of the deceased were withheld until the relatives were informed. ENDS
