Operation Pabalesego going well

02 Jan 2025

Operation Pabalesego, a national joint festive security initiative aimed at enhancing safety and curbing crime, is progressing smoothly in its efforts to combat crime and creating a safer and secure environment in Botswana.

According to the Botswana Police Service (BPS) Commissioner, Ms Dinah Marathe, the ongoing collaboration between BPS and the Botswana Defence Force (BDF) has been successful and impactful.

Ms Marathe expressed satisfaction with the progress made, emphasising the operation's positive impact on ensuring a crime free festive season and beyond.

She highlighted that the operation had made significant strides in protecting life and property, preventing and detecting crime as well as enforcing the law.

She further noted that Operation Pabalesego had successfully addressed various security concerns, leading to a greater sense of safety within communities.

The operation has been credited with a reduction in road accidents and a decrease in violent and intrusive crimes compared to the same period the previous year (2023).

Ms Marathe also acknowledged the positive impact the operation has had on reducing criminal activities, emphasising the importance of continued collaboration between law enforcement officers and the public.

“I want to extend my gratitude to members of the community who volunteered and to the NGOs (Non Governmental Organisations) and stakeholders working with us to ensure peace this festive season,” she said.

However, Ms Marathe expressed concern over the increase in Gender Based Violence (GBV) across the country, and drowning incidents, which have been recorded this year compared to the same period in the previous year (2023).

She called on all Batswana to work together to develop strategies to combat GBV.

“We all need to jointly fight GBV,” she said, urging citizens to take personal and collective responsibility by remaining vigilant and condemning GBV.

Ms Marathe also commended the police and other agencies for their dedication and hard work in executing the operation effectively, encouraging them to continue their good work for the country. ENDS
