01 Jan 2025
Matsiloje Border Post recorded a total of 4 714 departures, mostly South Africans on transit to Zimbabwe, December 23-31.
Officer in Charge of Immigration at the border post, Ms Irene Mogotsi said only 319 of the travellers were Batswana.
As for arrivals, Ms Mogotsi said 2 080 were registered, out of which 107 were Batswana. She further said 269 illegal immigrants were recorded in the same period.
Challenges encountered, she noted, included Batswana who came to the port of entry with expired passports and were not allowed to cross the border.
She also said some parents did not bring birth certificates of the children they were traveling with.
She urged those intending to cross the border to always carry necessary documents to avoid delays and being sent back. ENDS
