Minister for State President, Mr Moeti Mohwasa has applauded Botswana Police Service (BPS), Botswana Defence Force (BDF) officers and other stakeholders engaged in Pabalesego operation.
The minister, who paid the officers a visit at Makalamabedi Veterinary Disease Control gate on Monday, said they were doing a splendid job of sacrificing their lives to protect the nation.
He also commended them for playing a significant job in the past general elections.
Also, he noted that accommodation facilities for BPS and BDF officers at Makalamabedi gate were deplorable and he promised that government would ensure their welfare issues were addressed.
For his part, Divisional Commander North West, Senior Assistant Commissioner Cyprian Magalela said the Makalamabedi Veterinary Disease Control gate was manned by BPS officers from Maun under the North West Division, which had four districts of Maun, Ghanzi, Kasane and Shakawe.
He said the 24-hour disease control was operated by police officers, who were assigned to the area on a quarterly basis.
He said for the festive season, the police officers were now beefed up by BDF officers through Pabalesego operation, who worked on shifts with Veterinary officers.
Assistant Commissioner Magalela said the gate was busy and had in the past made significant interceptions of crimes such as drugs and stolen property.
He said their wish was to have permanent accommodation facilities for the officers at the gate.
Botswana Police Service Commissioner Diana Marathe and BDF Commander Lieutenant General Placid Segokgo accompanied the minister.
The minister also paid a courtesy call to the Batawana Tribal Administration where Kgosi Kealetile Moremi welcomed him. Ends
