President Advocate Duma Boko on Sunday visited the Modimoeng family in Thamaga to console them following the death of their loved one in an accident on Saturday. President Boko called upon the family to be comforted during the difficult time, adding the death of Lance Corporal Bakwena Modimoeng was unforeseen as he did not die in an act of war. Advocate Boko said Lance Corporal Modimoeng was dedicated to serving and protecting his nation and it was disheartening that he was unfortunately killed while on duty by someone who was against laid down laws. The President said although he could have sent a message, he saw it fit to join the family, mourn with them and stand with them during the difficult time. He said everyone was saddened by the death and promised the family support. Speaking in an interview, Senior Superintendent Near Bagali of Botswana Police said Lance Corporal Modimoeng, 31 and three police officers were hit by a car while closing down a bar which operated outside stipulated hours. He said the bar was operating at around 1 or 2 am and the law enforcement officers, who were on joint patrol, had come to close it. Unfortunately, a patron of the bar hit the officers, Lance Corporal Modimoeng and three police officers with a car resulting with a loss of life while the police officers were injured. One officer has since been discharged while another is hospitalised at Sedilega and the other in Letlhakane where the incident happened. The driver has been hospitalised as he sustained injuries after he hit a pole. Senior Superintendent Bagali said he will be charged with murder. ENDS
