Minister for State President Mr Moeti Mohwasa has expressed his condolences to the family of Mphetolang in Shoshong following the demise of their son, Gomolemo Seitio.
The 15 year-old boy, was swept away by water on December 18 while whiling away time with his companion who alerted parents about the incident.
Speaking in an interview after commiserating with the family on December 20, Minister Mohwasa said he learnt of the demise through the area MP, Mr Moneedi Bagaisamang adding that God shall mend the broken hearted.
“No one can ever truly be replaced. If we are doing God's work and if we pray, God may see fit to fill the void in our life left by the deceased person,” he said.
He also implored parents to exercise extra caution during the raining season to save lives.
A family representative, Mr Olopeng Mokalake thanked Mr Mohwasa for his warm heartedness.
Mr Mokalake said upon the report that the boy was swept away by the river, a massive search was launched.
He narrated that a search team comprising Botswana Police Service, Botswana Defence Force and members of the public searched until December 19 when his body was found motionless.
He expressed gratitude to the District commissioner’s office and the search team for a well-executed assignment, pointing that though the body was found motionless, they were relieved.
Meanwhile, Mr Mohwasa also had the opportunity to tour other flood-affected victims in the constituency so as to get first-hand information on the situation to ascertain appropriate assistance needed by the victims.
He said a trail of damages left by torrential rains initiated an emergency relief programme to normalise and rescue the situation before it spiralled out of control.
He said though the rains were much needed by farmers, they left a trail of destruction.
The minister was accompanied by Shoshong's Kgosi Felix Kgamane, Assistant Minister of Local Government and Traditional Affairs, Mr Ignatius Moswaane, Shoshong MP Bagaisamang, Mahalapye District Commissioner Mr Ernest Phiri and other government officials. Ends
