Morwa Infrastructure project on hold

19 Dec 2024

The tender for Morwa infrastructure project is on hold because it was cancelled in 2021 due to unresponsive bids.

The Minister of Water and Human Settlement, Mr Onneetse Ramogapi told Parliament that the retendering process commenced in 2022 but was suspended because one of the bidders challenged the cancellation decision at the High Court and it took two years for the matter to be disposed.

He said the court delivered judgement in September in favour of the ministry. Mr Ramogapi said the project was submitted for consideration under NDP 12 and would be implemented during the NDP 12 if approved as part of the plan.

He said bidders had rights to challenge the award decision at the Public Procurement Tribunal and the High court and every case was dealt with on its merits.

The minister said in the case of the Morwa project, the decision was challenged at the high court and the company challenging the decision lost with costs.

He was responding to a question by Mogoditshane West MP, Mr Galenawabo Lekau who asked the minister to appraise Parliament on the Morwa Infrastructure project and to state when it was going to start.

Mr Lekau also asked the minister whether the tender had been awarded and what happened to Tawana Joint venture and whether whatever happened was going to happen to Morwa project. Ends
