18 Dec 2024

The Francistown City Council Stadium will feature a crucial encounter between titans of the FNB Premiership, TAFIC and Gaborone United  (GU) on Saturday.

Both sides wear predominantly red with white as their kit and willl lock horns in a fixture that could reshape the entire season.

TAFIC, currently leading the log with 25 points, are home basking in the unwavering support of their passionate Francistown fans.  GU, hot on their heels with 24 points, represent a formidable challenge and the anticipation is palpable.

This is set to be a game where every pass, every tackle, and every goal carries immense significance.

The atmosphere is already electrifying with TAFIC supporters having been aggressively buying tickets, anticipating a day of fervent support and an explosion of colour within the stadium, which is expected to be a cauldron of noise, a testament to the fervent passion of the north’s football faithful.

The history of these two sides is rich with intense rivalry, and the first leg of the season hinted at the fire that would blaze on this December date.

It is a clash that has been anticipated for months, a showdown where the grass beneath the players’ feet is likely to feel the strain of such a crucial match..

The weight of expectation is heavy, the stakes are high, and the entire footballing nation will be watching intently this game, which is not just about points; it is about pride, about dominance, about forging a legacy in the FNB Premiership.

Football analyst and former Francistown Regional Football Association chairperson, Fanyana Fisher said TAFIC had expressed a strong desire for victory this season, and a home loss would undoubtedly be a significant setback.

Fisher described TAFIC’s playing style as fast-paced and precise, contrasting it with GU’s approach.

The Gaborone lads have their own strengths and tactical strategies that could prove effective.

Fisher is confident in TAFIC’s  ability to control the midfield given their strong squad assembled this season.

However, he said the outcome would depend on the overall performance of both teams on the day and their dominance.

GU coach, Pontsho Moloi is confident of a victory.

He pointed that his side  enjoy significant support outside Gaborone, minimising the away game disadvantage. With a full, healthy squad, Moloi believes a loss would be a major upset.

TAFIC coach, Elias Chinyemba is also confident, stating his team is ready for the match. However, he was unsure of the exact lineup until Friday due to training uncertainties, but emphasised the team’s eagerness and urged fans to support them at the stadium. ENDS
