Government to undertake Audit

18 Dec 2024

Government will undertake a financial and forensic audit to investigate, identify waste, corruption and inefficiencies across all ministries and parastatals.

Assistant Minister for State President, Ms Maipelo Mophuting told Parliament that where corruption and maladministration were identified perpetrators would be brought to book but due process would be followed to avoid shooting first and asking questions later.

She said as a human rights centric government, they operated within the confines of the law and human rights. Ms Mophuting added that from October 2019 to October 2024, a total of 118 tenders were awarded through Direct Appointment Method amounting to over P1.3 billion and out of these, a total of 110 tenders were awarded to citizen owned companies generating over P259 million while the remaining eight were non-citizens generating over P1.1 billion.

She was responding to a question from Molepolole North MP, Mr Arafat Khan who asked the minister to provide an update on the value and beneficiaries of direct appointments in tenders in the ministry in the said period.

Mr Khan also asked the minister if he intended to audit the processes and ascertain if there were any cases of abuse of office. ENDS
