The newly elected North West District Council chairperson, Mr Itumeleng Kelebetseng has implored councillors and employees to work as a team to bring socio-economic development in the region.
While he appreciated that majority of councillors were new to the council business, he urged employees to exercise patience and guide them in the interest of service delivery.
Mr Kelebetseng of Boseja Central ward made the call when delivering his acceptance speech during a special full council meeting on Monday where the new leadership was elected.
“About 60 per cent of fellow councillors are new and not familiar with some issues and I urge you employees to support and guide them. Batswana have elected a new government and we expect a lot of changes going forward,” he added.
He also stated that employees should implement council policies and programmes adding that the political wing should support and cooperate with them to ensure a positive outcome.
Mr Kelebetseng thanked the councillors for entrusting him with the task of leading them and promised to advance the district developments.
Their support, he said showed that they appreciated his good track record of leadership.
Mr Kelebetseng garnered 27 votes against specially elected councilor, Mr Kebareeditse Ntsogotlho who got only six votes. Councillor Ntsogotlho is also a former council chairperson and was ousted by Mr Kelebetseng in 2022.
Contesting for the deputy chairperson seat was Councillor Vepaune Moreti of Gxhabara/Dikgatlhong ward who was elected by 26 votes defeating Councillor Kobamelo Baikgodisi who got seven.
