Chadibe FC suffered a 2-0 defeat against visiting Matebele FC during the FNB Premiership match played at Francistown City Council Stadium on Saturday.
The match took a turn in the 37th minute of the first half when Mompati Mbidzo scored the opening goal for Matebele.
His strike left Chadibe supporters and players demoralised, especially as it came following a rebound from the Chadibe goalkeeper, Phatsimo Mogweng.
At halftime, Matebele held a 1-0 lead. The second half saw an even more dominant performance from the visitors, who controlled ball possession and created numerous scoring opportunities.
'Kuka Ntsu' relentlessly attacked, launching powerful shots from distance as they sought to extend their lead.
They effectively utilised their wings to penetrate the Chadibe defence, but initially struggled to find the net again.
With just ten minutes remaining in the match, Emmanuel Thabe capitalised on a perfectly placed cross, scoring a brilliant goal to seal Chadibe's fate.
In a post-match interview,, Chadibe assistant coach, Martin Mazeruku attributed the defeat to his team’s failure to capitalise on the chances they had in the first half.
The coach also revealed that he was forced to field his second-choice goalkeeper, Mogweng, due to injury suffered by the first-team keeper.
"I had no option but to play him, knowing the potential consequences," admitted Mazeruku.
The coach urged his players and supporters not to lose hope, emphasising that football was full of surprises.
Matebele head coach, Sean Connor said while securing a first goal was a positive start, their victory hinged on adjusting the game plan during the second half, leading to a favourable outcome. ENDS
