TAFIC fighting for title - coach
11 Dec 2024
TAFIC head coach Elias Chinyemba has warned their competitors that the Francistown giants are determined to win the FNB Premiership title.
TAFIC continued their impressive run yesterday with a come-from-behind 2-1 victory over BDF XI at the Francistown City Council Stadium, keeping them at the top of the table with 22 points.
"Given the team’s determination, we’re aiming for the championship," an elated Chinyemba stated after the match.
Despite BDF enjoying a slight edge in possession and creating several early chances, TAFIC's defense held firm.
The army team took the lead in the 31st minute when Norris Mwamba found the back of the net, protecting their lead until halftime and threatening to derail TAFIC's winning momentum in front of their home supporters.
However, the match took a complete turnaround in the second half, with TAFIC showing renewed vigor and relentlessly attacking the BDF defense.
Jean Mwamba found the equaliser in the 52nd minute after capitalising on a rebound from the BDF goalkeeper Thatayaone Setlhong to spark wild celebrations.
The goal shifted the momentum decisively in favour of TAFIC as they dominated possession and peppered the BDF goal with attacks.
Finally, in the 76th minute, Kemoneetswe Mmangwedi finished off a precise pass to secure the win, leaving BDF dejected and frustrated.
This victory followed TAFIC's impressive 2-2 draw against Township Rollers on Saturday, a match which saw them fight back from a 2-0 deficit to deny Rollers a win.
In another FNB Premiership encounter yesterday, second placed Gaborone United twice came from behind to beat Mochudi Centre Chiefs 3-2 at the BPSC Stadium.
The Reds talisman Thatayaone Kgamanyane brought his team back into the match in the 26th minute after stocky midfielder Thatayaone Ramatlapeng had given Magosi the lead in the 20th minute.
Lobopo Moremi briefly restored Chiefs' lead 10 minutes into the second half, but Liberian attacker Sheik Sesay levelled matters just three minutes later.
Zimbabwean defender Tatenda Gora settled the pulsating encouter with a powerful shot after Chiefs failed to clear a corner kick in the 65th minute. ENDS
