TAFIC Rollers share spoils in FNB Premiership thriller
08 Dec 2024
Football lovers in Francistown were treated to a pulsating FNB Premiership encounter that ended in a 2-all draw between Township Rollers and TAFIC FC on Saturday.
Rollers, despite taking a commanding 2-0 lead through Godfrey Tauyatswala’s first-half header and Elias Mbatshi’s early second-half strikes, were denied victory by a stunning comeback from TAFIC.
Modise Modipe’s brace, including a late equaliser, sealed a point for the visitors.
TAFIC coach, Elias Chinyemba, downplayed the significance of Rollers’ early lead, asserting that overcoming a deficit was part of their game plan.
He said TAFIC were unlucky not to secure all three points, having a potential third goal controversially ruled offside.
Despite a partisan crowd in TAFIC’s home stadium, Rollers controlled the first half, both teams seeking an early goal.
The second half saw a complete turnaround as the host took control, dominating possession and creating a sense of inevitability, and their late surge proved decisive.
The dramatic shift in momentum marked the second half, with TAFIC seizing control and dictating the play.
The air crackled with anticipation as TAFIC’s relentless pressure finally yielded its reward in the dying minutes.
The tide turned decisively in TAFIC’s favour during the second half.
Rollers coach, however, adopted a more dismissive tone, suggesting the match was merely a test against a team recently promoted to the elite league.
However, the draw itself left Rollers disappointed, while TAFIC celebrated a hard-fought point against a traditionally stronger opponent. Ends
