National Stadium undergoes track refurbishment

Botswana Premier League teams will have to find an alternative venue as the National Stadium is temporary closed for refurbishment of the race track.
The league’s chief executive officer, Bennet Mamelodi said in an interview that whist they accept and understand the reasons behind the closure of the National Stadium, they will be severely affected due to the fact that the venue hosted most of their big matches.
He however said they were comforted by the reality that the developments at the National Stadium would give the playing surface time to recover and regenerate, as well as go a long way in addressing progression of the broader sporting agenda.
A press statement from the Botswana National Sport Commission (BNSC) has indicated that refurbishment of the athletics track at the stadium is essential as the current track has reached the end of its operational lifespan.
The press statement further said the National Stadium will be temporarily closed from December 4 until the end of March 2025 to facilitate the refurbishment.
“The facility has been officially handed over to the contractor, who is set to commence work immediately,” the release stated.
The track was last refurbished in 2018. Ends
