Botswana Network for Mental Health (BONMEH) has been recognised for its contributions to the mental health landscape in Botswana, ensuring that the voices of individuals with lived experiences are heard and their needs addressed through meaningful actions.

Speaking during a recent event, Dr Juliet Bataringaya, the Officer-in-charge of the World Health Organisation (WHO) Botswana, commended BONMEH for its transformation from grassroots activism to a powerful advocate for systemic change in mental health. She highlighted that the organization has played a crucial role in shaping the mental health environment for Batswana.

Over the past decade, BONMEH has evolved from focusing merely on raising awareness to actively influencing policies, implementing comprehensive programs, and coordinating mental health responses within the civil society sector.

Dr Bataringaya praised the organisation for launching numerous impactful initiatives aimed at enhancing mental health responses, while also exploring connections with related issues such as non-communicable diseases, gender-based violence, and sexual and reproductive health rights.

“Their commitment to addressing mental health in a comprehensive and inclusive manner is evident,” Dr Bataringaya stated, emphasising how BONMEH’s efforts have broadened its reach and influence.

Moreover, she underscored that BONMEH has established itself as a leader in mental health advocacy, laying the groundwork for continued growth and increased impact in the future. Dr Bataringaya urged the organization to maintain its focus on ensuring mental health remains a priority for all stakeholders.

BONMEH recently celebrated its 10-year anniversary under the theme: A Decade of Healing and Hope, Reflections and Aspirations of Botswana Network for Mental Health,” marking a milestone in its ongoing journey towards improved mental health for the nation. Ends
