Jwaneng Councillors readied for work ahead

In an effort to incalculate good governance and orientate newly voted councillors, Jwaneng Town Council has conducted an induction session for them on Monday.
Jwaneng Town Clerk Ms Ogaufi Molelo noted that induction for new or returning councillors was a crucial component of their roles in serving the communities effectively.
Ms Molelo explained that the induction programme aimed at equipping the councillors with necessary knowledge, skills and understanding of their responsibilities and obligations.
Through the programme members would gain insights into local government processes decision making framework and community engagement strategies she said.
She said the induction also focused on fostering ethical conduct, effective communication and collaborative problem solving.
She emphasised that the principles and values of botlhaga, bofefo, botho and botswerere would be embedded in the in the way they are conducting themselves.
Ms Molelo stressed that the principles and values would significantly contribute to reinforcing and fostering a culture of self-reliance.
The areas which were covered during the workshop included; introduction to local government, council governance and structure, roles and responsibilities of councillors, processes and procedures of council, planning frameworks, financial planning and budgeting of councils together with public procurement.
New councillors were urged to play their oversight role and lead by example and to exercise their power and responsibilities to work together for peace, order and good governance. Ends
