Court concludes terminal benefits case
02 Dec 2024
The civil case registered before High court concerning one deceased person, Ms Nurse Tekeletso, a former employee for Selebi Phikwe Town council has been concluded.
Responding to parliamentary question on November 28, Minister of Local Government and Traditional Affairs, Mr Ketlhalefile Motshegwa, said there had been a registered civil case at Francistown High Court in 2022 between Selebi Phikwe Town Council and the late Ms Tekeletso’s estate emanating from an outstanding loan of Self Help Housing Agency(SHHA) amounting to P60 000.
He said the matter delayed the finalisation and payment of her terminal benefits, which were calculated and amounted to P39 425, an amount less than the outstanding loan balance.
The minister said, on October 3, 2024 the high court granted judgment, in favour of Selebi Phikwe Town Council, bringing the matter to conclusion. He therefore said, Ms Tekeletso was not owed any terminal benefits given the outstanding loan.
Mogoditshane West legislator, Mr Galenawabo Lekau had asked the minister when the terminal benefits of the late Ms Nurse Tekeletso who was an employee of Selebi-Phikwe Town Council from November 1996-2021 would be paid. Ends
