Budungwane un-gazetted settlement

02 Dec 2024

Budungwane settlement in Kgatleng District is classified as an ungazetted settlement therefore, there are currently no plans to provide it with services, says Assistant Minister of Water and Human Settlement, Mr Motsamai Motsamai.

He said Budungwane settlement did not form part of the draft NDP 12 plans which were still at drafting stage  and consideration could be made to provide services if the settlement was gazetted and funds permitted.

Mr Motsamai also explained to Parliament that, National Settlement Policy required government to provide infrastructure and services to settlements with a minimum population of 500 people and 250 for Remote Area Dwellers (RADS) settlements.

He stated that the population for Budungwane settlement, as per the 2022 population census, stood at 62, lower than the expected threshold that could qualify them to be provided with the services.

Kgatleng West MP, Dr Unity Dow had asked whether there were any plans for the development of Budungwane settlement, whether its residents could expect any additional services within the next five years and if so, what kind of services they could expect.

Moreover, she asked if at all the residents could expect to be provided with potable drinking water. Ends
