Constituencies to determine CCP projects
01 Dec 2024
Ministry of Local Government and Traditional Affairs has taken a decision to revert to Constituency Community Projects (CCP) inception guidelines that allowed constituencies to determine their own preferred projects and priorities.
Responding to parliamentary question on Wednesday, Assistant Minister of Local Government and Traditional Affairs, Mr Ignatius Moswaane said during 2023/24 financial year government took a decision to direct CCP funds towards the construction and maintenance of internal roads and storm water drainage.
He said the decision was taken in response to widespread concerns about poor conditions of internal roads and drainage systems in most of villages across the country which was largely attributed to budgetary constraints.
In addition, Mr Moswaane said the shift was aimed to facilitate ease of doing business and position villages as viable alternatives investment locations.
Selebi Phikwe East MP, Mr Kgoberego Nkawana, had asked the minister if he was aware that MPs at their respective constituencies no longer had control over CCP funds following a directive by Ministry of Finance, directing that all CCP funds be used for internal roads development or maintenance, an act that he said denied MPs from initiating any projects peculiar to their local situations.
