Batswana living in the diaspora have been called upon to play a meaningful role in the development of their country.
Addressing Batswana living in Belgium in a meet and greet session, President Advocate Duma Boko said they should be able to step forward to actively build a better future for all by optimising their diverse skills.
President Boko said the opportunities they have been exposed to in the diaspora may be useful in providing guidance to some of the challenges that plagued the country.
He told them that should there be need that some of the skills they possessed were not identified at home, they should be ready to come and fill such gaps.
“The country is counting on each and every one of you to provide solutions and answers to the challenges and shortcomings that you may have identified or you are to identify,” he said.
He said he had the conviction that they were able to see all the blind spots of every institution, hence they should take part in the conversations and activities at home.
“That is your responsibility, you owe it to the country. We will challenge and test your intellect,” he said.
He advised them to feel free to reach out to him and encouraged them to look forward to returning home.
President Boko said he believed in a participatory democracy where Batswana were free to exercise their civil liberties and that civil strife was a thing of the past..
Minister for International Relations, Dr Phenyo Butale said he was keen on crafting an efficient diaspora strategy.
Dr Butale said President Boko wanted an engaged citizenry that was agile.
“We want to hear your journey, your ideas and what you can contribute to this transformative journey,” he said. ENDS
