Storm causes destruction

26 Nov 2024

A heavy rainstorm that swept through Francistown on Monday afternoon has left a trail of destruction.

Accompanied by strong winds, the heavy rain lasted for about 30 minutes and destroyed property belonging to street vendors and also uprooted trees, causing damage to cars.

A street vendor who sells food along the Haskins Street, Ms Tapiwa Meshack said she lost all her stock to the heavy rain after the winds blew her makeshift shelter away.

Mr Amogelang Morapane, who sells perfumes near Ntshe House was left counting losses saying the rainstorm caught him off-guard.

“I have lost my stock amounting to P5 000,” he said.

Nevertheless, people were also urged to refrain from parking cars under trees, especially during rainy seasons to avoid possible damage caused by natural disasters. ENDS
