Mascom Wireless on Monday embarked on a housing project handover of fully-furnished two-bedroomed houses worth P190 000 to three of the four beneficiaries in Senyawe, Mapoka and Gungwe in the North East District.
The handover, held in Senyawe on Monday coincided with the annual Mascom Chief Executive Officer’s Children’s Christmas party.
The beneficiaries are Ms Simangaliso Mosimane, Ms Bakani Modise and Ms Tapela Sipopa. The fourth house is for a beneficiary in Mogoditshane.
The CEO, Ms Dzene Makhwade-Seboni said each house came complete with bedding, Christmas food hampers, and electricity connection.
She said the donation was aimed at making a positive impact and noted that it marked a significant improvement in the living conditions of the three women who are the beneficiaries and their families.
“This initiative underscores Mascom Wireless’s commitment to corporate social responsibility and improving the lives of vulnerable members of our community. The donation provides not only a roof over their heads but also a fully equipped home, offering a level of comfort and stability previously unimaginable,” she said.
Ms Makhwade-Seboni further indicated that the donation brought to 40, the total number of houses built by Mascom through the life-changing initiative.
She emphasised that the initiative was a direct reflection of Mascom’s values, prioritising both home ownership and education as crucial pathways to improved dignity and opportunity.
“At Mascom, we believe that access to secure housing is fundamental to human dignity. These homes represent more than just bricks and mortar, they represent stability, security, and a foundation for a brighter future for the recipients,” she said.
Ms Makhwade-Seboni also elaborated on Mascom’s dedication to education, stating that the company recognised the crucial role in individual and national development.
This was demonstrated through the CEO’s children’s Christmas party at Senyawe Primary School, a heartwarming tradition where the telecommunications giant spread cheer to learners.
Leading the charge was Ms Makhwade-Seboni, who, together with her team, transformed the school-yard into a wonderland.
She said year after year, a different school was chosen, ensuring that the spirit of Christmas and Mascom’s generosity reached far.
“This year, Senyawe Primary School was the fortunate beneficiary of this exceptional act of kindness, a day etched in the memories of both the children and the Mascom team,” she added.
Mascom also donated full school uniforms, and toiletries, amongst others to learners. The school also received two computers, a laptop, a desktop and a desktop printer.
Mascom board chairperson Mr Tobakani Rari explained that the donation represented a substantial investment in community development.
He said the housing project initiative does not only address immediate housing needs but also contributed to a more stable and secure environment for beneficiaries, allowing them to focus on building a better future.
The gesture was met with widespread praise from community members, who lauded Mascom’s corporate social responsibility efforts in contributing to long-term betterment of Botswana.
The beneficiaries equally expressed overwhelming gratitude for the life-changing gift. ENDS
