Vultures fail to qualify
26 Nov 2024
Botswana national rugby team, the Vultures will return from Morocco today after failing to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup.
The team was in Morocco playing a Repechage Rugby Africa Pool B Tournament in search of a spot in the continental cup to be hosted in Kampala, Uganda.
On its first test match since 2018, the Vultures were whitewashed 64-0 by Morocco last week Wednesday, thus casting a dark cloud over coach Andrew Paxinos’ vision of finishing on top of the table.
After losing against Morocco, the Vultures on Sunday faced Cameroon in the play-offs and the game ended in favour of the Vultures as they flogged the Atlas Lions of Cameroon 36-10.
Morocco managed to finish on the first spot after whipping Madagascar 53-37 on the final of Pool B, thus securing qualification for the Africa Cup qualifying play-off match.
Morocco will face the winner of Pool A in the next round, which will be a decider to announce a winner to the final phase of the 2025 Africa Cup.
The tournament will also be used as a qualifier to the next Rugby World Cup.
Pool A Repechage Tournament is to be played this December in Tunisia where the hosts will contest against Ghana, Nigeria and Zambia. Ends
