Boko attributes victory to Godliness

24 Nov 2024

President Advocate Duma Boko has expressed gratitude for the electoral victory of his political party, Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC), attributing the success not only to the will of the people but also to faith in God and divine intervention.

President Boko made the remarks during a courtesy call by South Africa’s former chief justice Mogoeng Mogoeng on Friday.

“I strongly believe that it was not a human design to be appointed to this new role as the President of this great Republic but everything was orchestrated by God and it was all his will,” President Boko said.

He said the journey to the Presidency had many obstacles which were overcome through dedication, prayer and surrendering to God thus he would forever remain humble and appreciative of Gods miraculous acts.

President Boko vowed to put everything before God in transforming and rebuilding Botswana.

Mr Mogoeng similarly imparted spiritual counsel that could shape the new leader’s approach to governance and encouraged President Boko to remain steadfast and reliant on the power of prayer.

He encouraged President Boko to pray for wisdom in putting together the final pieces of the De Beers agreement.

“I have noted with admiration your desire to promptly conclude talks for a new sales pact with global diamonds giant, De Beers as soon as possible and I pray to God to give you the wisdom needed for a fair deal in the interest of the citizenry,” he said.

Mr Mogoeng said it could only be through the visionary leadership that President Boko possessed that Botswana could be a shining example of democracy, freedom of speech and respect of human rights as well as rule of law.

He said Africa should draw lessons from the country’s smooth transfer of power. Ends
