Government to fulfil promises- President
24 Nov 2024
President Advocate Duma Boko says government will fulfil promises made to Batswana during election campaign.
President Boko said this during a kgotla meeting in Mahalapye on Saturday.
He said there was no backing down and government would continue to find ways to grow the country’s economy in order to deliver on the promises made during the election campaign.
He noted that promises made to Batswana included increasing the old age pension to P1 800 and assisting parents in the care of children from birth.
The President said Batswana should remain hopeful that the promises made by his party would be implemented.
On the issue of the P1800 for old age pension, Adv. Boko assured the elderly people that they would receive their money.
President Boko said he was thinking of ways to implement the promises as the country had no money, which was compounded by low sale of diamonds.
He informed the residents that he would be travelling to Belgium to meet with diamond traders to discuss the purchase of the country’s diamonds, adding that purchasing of local diamonds could solve some problems in the country.
About the newly introduced Ministry of Child Welfare and Basic Education, President Boko explained that under the ministry there would be a programme where new mothers would be provided with essentials such as formula milk and diapers for up to three months after the child’s birth.
He said the programme would ensure that children received proper care in their early stages of life. He also said new mothers would be eligible to receive P300 per child.
He said it was the responsibility of government to work with parents to ensure that children received care until they grow up.
President Advocate Boko emphasised that government must ensure that a child old enough to start preschool attended it rather than to keep them at home until they were ready for Standard One.
Kgosi Tshipe Tshipe of Mahalapye said Adv. Boko had proven himself to be a leader and a hero at an early age hence it was not surprising that he was now President.
He also said President Boko inherited wisdom from his father, Mr Stephen Boko, who loved to read and politics.
Kgosi Tshipe said Batswana had high hopes of equality in education and health, which President Boko and his party promised in the election campaign.
He reminded Mahalapye residents that Adv. Boko was not only their President but the President of all Batswana thus they should not expect him to visit them often.
He asked the residents to support President Boko so that he could do his job well. ENDS
