The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) will hold the elections for the council members for Mogapi and Lobatse Farms polling districts, on the 30th of November 30 between 6.30 am and 7.00 pm.

According to a press statement from the IEC, this comes after the death of two nominated candidates in the Mogapi and Lobatse Farms polling districts, in the Tswapong North and Gamalete constituencies respectively.

The statement says prior to the recent general election, before polling day, satisfactory proof of the death of the nominated candidates was given to the Secretary of IEC.

“As per section 47 of the Electoral Act, in such instances, all proceedings with reference to the election shall be started afresh in all respects as if the writ has been received on the day on which proof was given to the Secretary,” the statement says.

The statement points out that all registered voters in the respective polling districts are reminded to ensure that their national identity cards are valid and that those who lost their voters registration cards should visit any nearby IEC office to obtain a duplicate. Ends
