22 Nov 2024

Selebi Phikwe based FNB Premiership club Nico United will today launch a campaign aimed at raising funds for buying a bus for the club.

The initiative called 'Chairman's P1 000 Buy A Bus Campaign', a brainchild of the club's chairman Busani Segweni, will be launched at Adonsania Hotel in Gaborone at 12 noon.

The club's general manager Boiketlo Dinkeme, in an interview yesterday, explained that the chairman came up with the initiative in order to help the team to have is own transport.

"We spend a lot of money on transport by using privately owned transport. We spend more than P300 000 per season on transport only," he said.

Dinkeme said they aim to raise over P500 000 through the initiative, which will run for three months.

"It is a community based initiative through which supporters, companies or any donor are expected to make an impact through pledges or donations. Our plan with this initiative is to be as transparent as possible. We have opened a bank account specifically for the initiative. The bank account will be tracked and monitored through the club's social media page," he said.

He said the bus will benefit their senior team as well as ladies and junior teams. He added that they would use the bus as an advertising space. He said names of those who would make donations would be placed on the bus.

The club's public relations officer Pusoetsile Ramadubu said they aimed to buy either a 50 seater bus or a sprinter through funds raised from the campaign. Ramadubu further said the club was engaged on a membership drive aimed towards registering more supporters.

"One of the initiatives from our Annual General Meeting is the membership drive. For the society to thrive it is through registered membership which puts revenue into the team. Currently we are on a membership drive. We have different packages, one packages comes with a club replica shirt to encourage our supporters to buy replicas. The other package comes with an insurance policy," he said. Ends
