Dikoloti emphasises innovative approaches for resilient economy

 It is through adopting progressive and innovative approaches to economic growth that Botswana can diversify the economy beyond diamonds and build a resilient, high-income economy for all.

Speaking during the closing ceremony of the broad-based stakeholders’ validation workshop for the draft National Blue Economy Strategy for Botswana in Gaborone on November 20, Assistant

Minister of Lands and Agriculture, Dr Edwin Dikoloti urged Batswana to join hands to build an inclusive economy that catered for all.

Dr Dikoloti declared government’s full commitment to prioritising the blue economy strategy within the national development agenda.

“We will work tirelessly to realise its objectives, address challenges and seize opportunities for a resilient and inclusive blue economy.”

He pointed out that the validation workshop had not only been a platform for refining ideas, but also a demonstration of collective commitment to shaping a resilient and inclusive future for Botswana, further stressing the importance of sharing the vision to unlock the vast potential of aquatic resources for sustainable growth and development in the country.

The assistant minister further said the workshop had been instrumental in refining the draft strategy, ensuring that it aligned with Botswana’s aspirations for sustainable development, economic diversification, and environmental stewardship.

“The vibrant discussions and recommendations put forth will undoubtedly shape the trajectory of our blue economy agenda,” he said. Dr Dikoloti recognised the crucial role of development partners, whom he said continued to champion sustainable economic initiatives in Botswana and reaffirmed Botswana’s dedication to turning the strategy into a cornerstone of national development agenda.

“As we transition from validation to implementation, collaboration and accountability will be paramount,” he said, urging all to create a thriving blue economy that benefited present and future generations and to build a legacy of sustainable growth, environmental preservation, and prosperity for all Batswana.
