Vultures start on low note
21 Nov 2024
Botswana senior rugby team, the Vultures has succumbed to a 64-0 defeat against Morocco’s Atlas Lions.
The Vultures are in Morocco in search for a spot in the 2025 Rugby Africa Cup to be played in Casablanca, Morocco.
They are playing in the 2024 Rugby Africa Repechage Pool B Tournament, which serves as a qualifier for the 2025 Rugby Africa Cup.
After six years, having participated in Rugby Africa’s competitions in 2018, the Vultures, according to the Botswana Rugby Union (BRU), are backing themselves to gain promotion to the continent’s premier division at the end of all Repechage round of matches in November and December.
BRU’s Andrew Paxinos said they have been preparing intensively for this competition but on Wednesday, they seemed to derail from their mission.
The least ranked Vultures, 77th in the world rankings, are seeded in Pool B of the Repechage with the 45th ranked Morocco, Madagascar and Cameroon.
Madagascar hammered Cameroon 33-7.
The games continue on Sunday with Botswana taking on Cameroon whilst Morocco faces Madagascar. Ends
