President Advocate Duma Boko has encouraged Batswana living in Zimbabwe to use the opportunity of being in diaspora to gain skills and knowledge that will help in improving their livelihoods and the economy of Botswana.
“You have had the benefit of living in Botswana. Now you are in Zimbabwe. There are many things we can learn from Zimbabwe,” he said yesterday in Harare at a meeting where he interacted with Batswana based in Zimbabwe.
President Boko said Batswana could learn a lot from Zimbabweans as the latter were resourceful and hardworking.
“I would like to assume that the resourcefulness and industry has rubbed off onto you and you will transmit it across to your home country so that we develop and improve,” he said
He promised not to distance himself from the people, which situation could instil fear in those he was assigned to serve.
“You are free to talk to me. You are free to tell me what you think and describe for me how you want your country to be,” he said, adding that his assignment was to deliver the very best for the people.
Adv. Boko acknowledged that Botswana was marred by challenges, but also expressed delight at the fact that the country was blessed with talented and gifted people at his disposal to help him get answers and solutions to the said problems.
President Boko encouraged his audience to bring forth whatever problems they may be facing together with crafted and fashioned possible solutions, in order to get them examined and pave a way forward.
He said by so doing, the people would create an environment where children would be offered an education system that provided every child with an opportunity to have a better future while equally instilling discipline and unleashing their youthful energy.
Meanwhile, the Ambassador of Botswana to Zimbabwe, Ms Sarah Molosiwa has, in welcoming President Boko, indicated that Batswana in Zimbabwe and the Embassy were privileged to be the first to receive him in the diaspora after winning the October elections.
Ms Molosiwa said his appointment was a momentous feat not only for him and his family, but equally for the whole nation, the SADC region, Africa and the whole world.
She said for many years there had been a misconception that Zimbabwe was an ailing economy, but on the contrary, that long sleeping giant that had awaken.
Ms Molosiwa said Zimbabwe was determined to revert to its glory days as a true bread basket of Africa through its industries across all the spectra ranging from manufacturing, tourism to agriculture, among others.
She encouraged the government of Botswana to further harness and strengthen the already excellent bilateral and diplomatic relations in order for the two countries to enjoy exchange of skills and knowledge.
Ms Molosiwa said the Ministry of International Relations had been assigned to enhance economic diplomacy as their core mandate and therefore look for business opportunities that would help grow the economy of Botswana. Ends
