President Advocate Duma Boko has outlined initiatives geared at diversifying and bolstering the country’s revenue streams, ultimately opening new markets for local goods and services.
In his maiden State-of-the-Nation Address yesterday, President Boko said the initiatives would further strengthen national security and foster development of strategic regional and international partnerships.
He noted that government would engage with international credit markets to raise capital for development projects.
“This will help address fiscal deficits, finance infrastructure projects and promote Botswana as a favourable destination for investment, President Boko said in regard to accessing international capital.
To foster trade partnerships, Advocate Boko said the administration would collaborate with neighbouring countries and international organisations alongside facilitating high-level visits aimed at exploring new trade opportunities.
He highlighted the importance of these partnerships in attracting foreign investments as part of the development strategy.
On the aspect of environmental sustainability, he said government would prioritise policies that protected the environment, mitigated climate change while in favour of sustainable management of resources.
As part of the commitment, the President said Botswana would introduce a comprehensive Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) strategy designed to promote green finance.
According to President Boko the strategy aimed to position Botswana as a leader in climate action and directly attracting international capital into critical sectors such as renewable energy, waste management, and conservation.
Investment in renewable energy projects, including solar, wind, and bio-energy, was also a key focus by the government.
This initiative, according to the President, seeks to decrease reliance on fossil fuels while simultaneously creating new economic opportunities for the populace.
In terms of tourism, President Boko stated the importance of eco tourism in safeguarding Botswana’s unique wildlife and ecosystems, ensuring that the country’s natural reserves remained unspoiled for future generations.
Eco tourism will play a vital role in both preserving the environment and generating sustainable income of local communities, he said. Ends
