With Francistown gearing up for a busy weekend with two major events taking place on Friday, the police say they are well-prepared to ensure a safe and secure event.
The city will host an Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying match between the Zebras and Mauritania, as well as the Botswana Defence Force’s annual charity concert, both schedule for Friday.
In an interview Traffic Divisional Officer (North), Assistant Commissioner of Police, Mr Modisaotsile Solomon said with the President and other dignitaries attending the football match, security will be heightened.
He said police officers will be deployed inside the stadium and along the A3 highway near the main entrance to manage traffic flow.
“Highway patrols will also be in place in all our major and internal roads to make sure that motorists abide with traffic rules,” he said.
He said recognising the anticipated influx of people due to the events and the weekend, the police advise attendees to arrive at the stadium early, by 12 noon at the latest, to avoid congestion. ENDS
