Boseja South VDC aims high
13 Nov 2024
The newly established Boseja South Village Development Committee (VDC) aims to effectively play its role in the development agenda of the area.
The VDC chairperson, Ms Kegomoditswe Ndulamo revealed in an interview that they were committed and determined to drive development projects, policies and programmes aimed at empowering and uplifting the livelihoods of residents.
She noted that they had a plot in which the council constructed an extension office through the Constituency Community Programme (CCP), adding that they were awaiting the connection of water and electricity.
She said the extension office had a board room, kitchen and ablutions, noting that they could accommodate public servants.
She said their request to appoint a kgosi for the ward had been approved and that they planned to construct a kgotla shelter within their premises.
Ms Ndulamo said a kgotla was critical for any community as it was the assembly point within a village and recognised by all as a place of respect and where they could meet, share ideas and plan collectively towards the development of their ward.
Furthermore, she highlighted that plans were underway to construct a traditional hut within the premises, which would showcase their village life and tradition.
Ms Ndulamo also noted that they had two houses that generated income for them and that they collected P1 200 from both houses on a monthly basis.
To generate additional revenue, she said they had land within their premises where they intended to venture into horticulture.
She also said they intended to lure sponsors to help them build more rental houses to address shortage of accommodation for public servants in their area, noting that lack of housing was affecting service delivery.
In addition, she said they also intended to establish a recreational park to generate revenue through various strategies and initiatives such as staging weddings, parties and other gatherings.
On other issues, Ms Ndulamo complained that Boseja South had turned into a criminal hub due to its bushy terrain land.
She said they had many destitute and orphans who had no plots and that some lived in squalor. She noted that they had more than 100 registered destitute persons.
“This is a big number that calls for us to go the extra mile and play our role to complement government so that they have dignified lives,” she added. ENDS
