Holly Ghost woes continue in First Division
11 Nov 2024
Holy Ghost’s dry spell in the First Division South League continued over the weekend with a 2-0 defeat by UB Hawks at SSG Ground.
After dropping points at home with a 1-0 defeat by Taung Young Strikers in their league opener, Holy Ghost were hoping to fight their way back to winning ways as they took a drive from Mmopane to Gaborone for a fixture they mostly dominated in the past years. They have only lost to Hawks once in more than 10 encounters .
Nonetheless, Tefo Norman’s well taken shot from the edge of the box and Phillip Bright’s 85th strike were enough to hand Holy Ghost their second defeat in a row and a give Hawks the maximum three points.
The once indomitable ‘Holy Boys’ are finding the going tough in the second tier of the elite league as they are yet to taste victory and are currently languishing at the bottom of the log with zero points.
Inconsistency and low goal conversion rate had been haunting Holy Ghost in recent fixtures, as they are having a dry spell in front of the goal posts and are yet to find the back of the net while they have defensibly been porous at the back, having conceded three goals in two games.
The side, which once plied its trade in the Premier League is on a downward spiral and would properly need to find their mojo back if they are to finish in the top end of the league.
Currently rooted at the bottom of league, it goes without saying that Holy Ghost could be relegation bound unless they regain their confidence.
A mammoth task lays ahead for them in their next encounters as they face off against two super powers in Notwane and City Polar. The Holy Boys will have to dig deep to turn their fortunes around against a similarly downgrading Notwane who themselves are finding the going tough this season and also yet to register a victory.
The once mighty Toronto, as Notwane is affectionately known, are a shadow of their yesteryear selves, having played to two consecutive goalless draws in their opening games against UB Hawks and City Polar respectively.
Both Holy Ghost and Notwane need to fight to the bitter end in their match day during the week three encounter. ENDS
