President attends church service

10 Nov 2024

St. John’s Apostolic Faith Mission of Botswana, Gaborone West branch was yesterday blessed to have President Duma Boko at their service.

President Boko, still new in office, took time from his busy schedule to grace the regional church’s service, where he also had an opportunity to share a word with the congregation.

During his address, he acknowledged the church’s foresight regarding the recent political shifts in the country, recalling how the congregation had previously invited him.

The President expressed appreciation for the church’s unwavering prayers for peace and tranquility, stating, ‘God has heeded your prayers. We should agree that what happened was the will of God and not ours. God was just working through us as we are just his servants.'

He also noted that many analysts had doubted the possibility of a change of government, but emphasised that ‘God had his own plans for the country.’

As he sought support from the church, President Boko encouraged the congregation to remain close to him for guidance. “Do not wander too far from me so that when I go astray you can guide me,” he urged.

He reiterated his faith in his leadership journey, expressing certainty about his eventual rise, albeit uncertain about the timing and process. In a call for unity, he asked the church to pray for those who would seek to divide the nation.

“Tranquillity of this country is upon your prayers and advice,” he said, and stressed that it was the duty of Batswana to keep him in check to ensure he served them to their desires.

President Boko stressed his respect to former President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi for handing over power smoothly, which he said was not an easy task for someone who might not have expected the outcome.

He said such was a sign of a humble leader who also appreciated the will of God.

For her welcome remarks, Lady Bishop Segametsi Kgosietsile appreciated President Boko for gracing the church. She said the visit was not the first, an indication of a connection between him and the church.

“You have visited us before as an ordinary citizen, and it is an honour to us that you visited while still so new in office,” she said, adding that because the church prayed for the elections to be peaceful, it was only right that they prayed to give thanks for answered prayers.

She also appreciated the President’s unifying message that Batswana should unite.

Lady Bishop Kgosietsile also informed President Boko to expect an invitation to officially open their newly constructed church, which was also the regional headquarters for the southern region.

President Boko was accompanied by Vice President, Mr Ndaba Gaolathe as well as Hollywood star, Mr Rick Yune. Ends
