Desert Nxau aims for top eight finish

08 Nov 2024

Desert Nxau head coach Aobakwe Seloselong says he aims to guide the Tsabong based team to a top eight finish in the First Division South League this season.

Nxau welcomes Prisons XI in what is anticipated to be a thrilling encounter tomorrow afternoon at Tsabong VDC Ground.

They will be fighting to move away from the relegation zone as they currently sit on position 10 out of 12 teams in the second tier league.

In an interview this week, Seloselong pointed that his boys were hungry for victory and would give 'The Warders' a hard time on home ground.

“This will be our second game (of the campaign), our first game was an away game against Tlokweng United where we drew 0-0. On Saturday we will be home and we will capitalize on home ground advantage in front of our supporters. We have noted and corrected our mistakes from the previous game,” he said.

Last season Prisons beat Nxau 3-0 as 'Boys to Men' returned to the first division after an absence of two decades, and Seloselong does not want a repeat of that hammering.

"Prisons welcomed us to the first division with a beating. By then we were freshmen in the league, so we will make sure that it does not happen again,” he said.

Seloselong said the players have been training well and were generally fit. He however said four of his senior players were carrying minor injuries.

“We have registered new, good players so our supporters must come and see them in action for the first time. We need their support. Our aim is to move the team to another level from the last season because we were treading on relegation zone. This season we want to move to top eight because it will give us an advantage to play in the Orange FA Cup," he said.

Prisons head coach Sylvester Madisa said they were ready for the game albeit having to contend with a few injuries.

“We have prepared well except that we have three key players on injury. We will strive to win the game. We will not treat Desert Nxau as a small team. These teams can be problematic when we play them, we are going to take the game seriously,” Madisa said.

He also said 'The Warders' were hungry for a win as they did not do well in their first game of the league, drawing with City Polar 1-1 in Gaborone.

“We need to win, first division games are not many so it is important to win during the first round of the league. It becomes more difficult when you have lost the initial games,” he said.

Meanwhile, City Polar will lock horns with Notwane at City Polar Stadium in Ramonaka in what is also expected to be a thrilling encounter on Saturday.
