SADC leaders to grace Boko's inauguration

Presidents Dr Emmerson Mnangagwa of Zimbabwe, Mr Hakainde Hichilema of Zambia and Dr Nangolo Mbumba of Namibia, are some of the leaders expected to attend the inauguration of Botswana’s newly elected President Advocate Duma Boko.

The inauguration ceremony will be held tomorrow morning at the National Stadium in Gaborone, with the day having been declared a holiday to allow the public to witness the historic event.

The October 30 general elections ushered in a new republic after the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC), under President Boko, ended the Botswana Democratic Party's (BDP) 58-year-rule.

Apart from the three presidents, several leaders from SADC countries are expected to grace the ceremony. South Africa's Deputy President Mr Paul Mashatile will also come to the inauguration.


Other leaders include the Prime Minister of Eswatini Mr Russell Dlamini, Deputy Prime Minister  of Lesotho Ms Nthomeng Majara, Deputy Prime Minister of Tanzania Dr Doto Biteko and Deputy President of Kenya Mr Kithure Kindika.

Mozambique's Foreign Minister Ms Veronica Macamo Dlovo and South Africa's Minister of International Relations Mr Ronald Lamola will also be in attendance.

Dignitaries from the Malawi high commission, Rwanda high commission and Mauritius will also be in attendance.

President Boko is expected to make his first public address at the event, where he is expected to share his vision and goals for the nation.
