Gaolathe is Vice President of Botswana

Mr Ndaba Gaolathe has been endorsed by Parliament as Vice President of Botswana following a parliamentary vote today. 
 
The election process, which is restricted to the 61 elected Members of Parliament, saw Mr Gaolathe receiving 46 votes out of the total of 61. Three voted "no" while 12 abstained.
 
Mr Gaolathe, an economics and finance professional, is the 10th Vice President of Botswana. 
 
The 53 year-old is the president of Alliance for Progressives (AP) which is a member of the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) coalition. 
 
He is also the MP for Gaborone Bonnington North Constituency having won the seat in the October 30 general elections under the UDC ticket. He was also MP of the same constituency from 2014-19.
 
Mr Gaolathe started his political career with the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP). He left the BDP in 2010 and became one of the founding members of the Botswana Movement for Democracy (BMD). His political journey then led him to the formation of the AP in 2017 after leaving BMD. Ends
