GU registers second victory

Gaborone United registered their second win of the season on Sunday with a 3-1 victory  over Extension Gunners in the FNB Premiership match played at National Stadium.

A contentious own goal by Ofentse Nato that prompted the need for the introduction of Video Assistant Referee (VNA) gave the Reds an early lead in the first half.

Mpho Kgaswane and Thatayaone Kgamanyane were also on target to give GU maximum points at the final whistle, Baokeditswe Talane scored the consolation goal for Mapantsula.

Both teams stepped on the field on Sunday on the back of some inconstant results from match day four, with GU having played to a goalless draw against Nico while Gunners were coming from a 2-1 victory against VTM.

Despite an array of stars in their camp, Moyagoleele are nonetheless yet to stamp their authority this season as they have only registered two victories and three draws with only nine points  on the bag at position five on the log standing.

Gunners, on the other hand, are having a roller coaster season by far occupying position nine with six points from five games with only two  wins  and  three  losses under their belt.

In a post-match interview following the loss to  GU, Gunners gaffer, Mike Sithole, said his team  was  still a work in  progress.

He attributed the loss to individual mistakes defensively that culminated in the team losing the confidence and ultimately dropping the three points on the day.

“One should be mindful that this team is fresh  from  division one  and  we do not  have to rush  players since they are not yet ready to withstand the pressure, therefore  there is a lot of patience needed before the results  can start  showing,” he said.

Sithole expressed optimism that Gunners would bounce back in the coming fixtures, adding that there was still a lot that needed to be done with convention of chances created.

For  his side, GU’s head coach, Pontsho Moloi, said he was satisfied with the  team’s progress, citing an improvement from the  previous  game.

“There is obviously great improvement from our last game and todays results are testament to that, we thus need to build on today’s performance heading into our games,” he said.

Moloi said the league was still in its infancy to decide the outcome at the end of the season. In other games  played over the  weekend, on song  Mochudi Centre Chiefs continued  their  unbeaten run with  an  impressive 2-1  victory away to debutants  Chadibe United to further  cement  their  lead at the summit  of the log  standings.

A late solitary goal by  Djo  Ntambwe  gave Township Rollers 1-0  victory against  Matebele  while  Orapa  United and BDF XI  played to a one-all stalemate.

Tafic  impressive  run  of the  season continued  over the  weekend  with  2-0 win against Security System while Jwaneng  Galaxy  and  Nico United played to a goalless draw.

Meanwhile, Union Flamengo Santos woes continued as they were thumped 5-0 by Sua Flamingoes. Ends
