Botswana has since gaining independence in 1966 embarked on a remarkable journey, guided by principles and policies of Botswana Democratic Party (BDP), Vice President Slumber Tsogwane has said.

Launching parliamentary candidates for Francistown East, West and South on Saturday, Mr Tsogwane who is also the BDP chairman, said the party had focused on sound economic policies and social Programmes aimed at uplifting livelihoods.

He said steady growth of the economy was a testament to the party’s vision.

He said Botswana had transitioned from being one of the poorest countries in the world to a middle-income nation with a growing GDP and a stable political environment.

Mr Tsogwane said this could be attributed to government initiatives such as agriculture programmes and rural development.

He said the BDP government had implemented various programmes that provided training, access to modern farming techniques, and financial assistance, allowing families to cultivate their land more effectively.

The Vice President said education had been another milestone that BDP had achieved.

With a commitment to universal education, he said schools had sprung up in every corner of the country. He said young Batswana had the opportunity to pursue their dreams, whether in health, engineering, or the arts.

He said scholarships and support programmes had enabled many to attend universities abroad, bringing back knowledge and skills that contributed to the nation’s development.

As for healthcare, he said government had prioritised the establishment of clinics and hospitals, ensuring accessibility for all.

Mr Tsogwane said progress had been made in combating diseases such as HIV/AIDS, through awareness campaigns and treatment programmes, which had greatly increased the life expectancy of affected individuals.

He said because of fruitful endeavors of the BDP ,Batswana could now celebrate their health and the increased life expectancy.

The VP urged Batswana to unite and make their voices heard by voting for his party in the Wednesday general elections.

He said opposition parties lacked substantial plans or initiatives to address pressing issues facing the nation.

Mr Tsogwane called on democrats and supporters to mobilise communities and ensure a robust turnout on election day.

He emphasised that every vote counted and that a decisive victory for the BDP would solidify the nation’s path toward prosperity.
