Vote for Kgoboko return Bobirwa to BDP- Autlwetse

28 Oct 2024

Voting for Mr Francisco Kgoboko, Botswana Democratic Party’s parliamentary  candidate for Bobirwa, will not only help the party to garner the over 31 seats required to attain state power, but it will also revert the constituency to the BDP fold.

Speaking during the launch of Mr Kgoboko on Sunday, Mr Kgotla Autlwetse, pleaded with the electorate to vote for the parliamentary hopeful and the 12 council candidates.

He dissuaded the electorate from the ‘trial’ they did when in 2019 they sent Mr Taolo Lucas of the Botswana Congress Party to Parliament, saying the move was detrimental to the BDP rule.

Mr Lucas vanquished Mr Kgoboko with a margin of 853 votes.

Mr Autlwetse said opposition MPs went to Parliament only to oppose BDP’s developmental agenda and programmes and hence none of the parties contesting the elections fielded the full complement of 61 MP candidates.

Not only that, Mr Autlwetse said many of the opposition parties, splinters from the older parties, were products of anger while others presented as tribal groups than actual political parties.

“They haven’t fielded the 61 MP candidates because they have accepted their fate and resigned to being opposition to the BDP,” said Mr Autlwetse.

For that, Mr Autlwetse said only the BDP was intentional on governing the country as it had fielded 61 MP candidates and 609 council candidates across Botswana.

To successfully attain state power, Mr Autlwetse called on Bobirwa and the whole country to favour the BDP with their votes so that each constituency contributed a BDP MP.

“Mr Kgoboko remained rooted here and supporting the constituents despite losing in 2019. He has been giving to this constituency and sponsoring educational activities amongst other things,” he said and added that despite being educated in Canada, Mr Kgoboko came back home to help develop his country.

For his part, Mr Kgoboko of  a philanthropist, mining engineer and consultant and a businessman, who has been lauded for his charitable deeds, pleaded for votes in his favour.

Mr Kgoboko aims to surpass his 2019 tally of 8 103 and soar past the competition.

“We kneel before you and plead for your votes so we can represent you. We promise to be humble and serve you the best way possible,” said Mr Kgoboko.

Mr Kgoboko will contest against Mr Lucas of the BCP, Bishop Boitshephelo Jakoba of the Botswana Patriotic Front and Dr Tshepang Makwati of the Umbrella for Democratic Change for the vote of the 23 286 officially registered voters. ENDS
