Botswana Democratic Party leader, Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi has appealed to Chobe constituents to vote for BDP and ensure a seamless succession for Chobe infrastructure development.
Speaking at a star rally in Kasane on Sunday, Dr Masisi said Chobe was earmarked to transform Botswana’s tourism industry.
This, he said, would be achieved through the Kasane/Kazungula redevelopment plan which was already in motion as numerous development projects had been completed in Chobe.
Dr Masisi said the Kasane water treatment plant commissioned on Sunday affirmed the commitment made by the BDP-led government to deliver quality water to Chobe residents.
Furthermore, he assured the people of Chobe that water supply infrastructure would be expanded to Pandamatenga, the only village that was not connected to the new treatment plant.
Dr Masisi highlighted that the projected Zambezi Integrated Agro-Commercial development would not only address water shortage in Pandamatenga, but improve food security in Botswana.
In 2010, Botswana secured access to draw 495 million cubic meters of water per year from the Zambezi River Basin, to support domestic water demand, commercial agriculture and industrial demand with about 225 million cubic meters going to domestic and industrial use while the remaining 270 million cubic meters will go to the Integrated Agro-Commercial development Project in Pandamatenga.
President Masisi told residents that the next phase of farm allocations in Pandamatenga would only go to Batswana, adding that this would be complemented by the government subsidies and programmes like Temo Letlotlo and Thuo Letlotlo for citizens to enjoy agriculture fully.
“We are projecting a bright and better Botswana where citizens are empowered to be self-reliant and contribute to economic growth,” said President Masisi, appealing to Chobe constituents to vote for BDP, because in doing so they would guarantee that he continued as the President.
Chobe parliamentary candidate, Mr Luckson Likokoto appealed to the constituents to vote for him and allow him to continue to build from where former MP Mr Machana Shamukuni left off.
Mr Likokoto stated that government through the leadership of President Masisi, had registered some achievements in wildlife and environmental conservation.
He said since the hunting ban was lifted in 2019, human-wildlife conflict had declined in Chobe.
The outgoing Chobe MP, Mr Shamukuni also pleaded with the constituents to disregard opposition parties’ empty promises and vote for the BDP.
He said in 2019, only Kazungula Newstance was won by opposition while the other Chobe constituency wards went to the BDP. ENDS
