First Capital Bank sponsors marathon

28 Oct 2024

First Capital Bank has sponsored the annual Botswana Tertiary Student Sports Association (BOTESSA) Run Maun marathon with P50 000.

The bank’s Maun branch manager, Eva Mwila said they found it fit to partner with BOTESSA to develop and nurture talent in sport.

She noted that the marathon did not only benefit athletes, but that other members of the community also benefitted through health and fitness.

Mwila said their corporate social responsibility programme included improving the livelihoods of communities they operated from and that through their partnership with BOTESSA, they aim to continue supporting sporting activities.

She further said their partnership would grow and that they intended to support the marathon next year. She appealed to Maun youth to come on board and take advantage of the marathon to enjoy the benefits of sports.

BOTESSA president, Keorapetse Setlhare appreciated the sponsorship from the bank and other corporate entities, citing Chobe Holdings and Wilderness Safaris.

He said the marathon was growing annually despite challenges encountered, noting that the number of participants had doubled from last year.

“We enjoy support from different stakeholders in the district because they realise that the race did not only promote sport, but also promotes sport tourism,” he said.

Setlhare also appealed to the business community to continue investing in their marathon, saying they wanted to grow bigger and to meet international standards.

He said they planned to establish an investment wing of BOTESSA, which would run events such as the Run Maun marathon.

Meanwhile, in the 21km male category, Glady Kiptoo of Kenya emerged the champion and walked away with P7 000 while locals, Kabo Jenamo and Aobakwe Goitlogetswe settled for position two and three and were awarded P4 000 and P3 000 respectively. Ends
